Coupons! Coupons! Coupons!
Today's $ TIP OF THE DAY is from one of my friends Micaela.COUPONS!!So as far as coupons are concerned...the coupon inserts in the newspaper usually follow the weekly ads for the stores...so, what I do is I only clip coupons for what I use (no sense in spending on something you don't use, just because you have a coupon for it!) and then I watch ads for when that item is on sale and the eureka moment is when the store is offering double coupons at the same time!
I have bought a jar of peanut butter for $.10! I have a friend who regularly "makes" money with coupons. My goal is to add up my total savings on my bill (from the specials) and my coupon savings and have the two amounts be equal to or more than what I actually spent.
Coupon codes online are great. Everytime I purchase something online I open a new window and search the store's name and coupon codes...then I review the current codes for the best deal. With a few extra minutes...you can save 20% or get $25 off of $100 or more or at the very least free shipping.
And, I always check ebay and craigslist before I buy something elsewhere. Many people re-sell something (brand new) for less than a store offers it!-The Budgetnista (via Micaela)

Breakfast for the Broke: April 27,2010
$ TIP OF THE DAY: Breakfast for pennies; Late for work? Don't buy breakfast! Grab a pack of instant oatmeal and a box of raisins and your fav travel mug. Talk Is Cheap: April 26, 2010
$ TIP OF THE DAY: Make cheap phone calls. If you have family overseas you should consider dropping your phone service and calling cards and use Skype, Vonage VOIP or some other VOIP service instead. VOIP means Voice over Internet Protocol. Basically you talk using the internet verses the phone lines. If you already have internet it can cost you little to NOTHING a month!VoIP calls can be placed across the Internet. Most Internet connections are charged using a flat monthly fee structure.-The Budgetnista
Using the Internet connection for both data traffic and voice calls can allow consumers to get rid of one monthly payment. In addition, VoIP plans do not charge a per-minute fee for long distance.
For International calling, the monetary savings to the consumer from switching to VoIP technology can be enormous.

LIVE WHERE YOU WORK: April 21, 2010
$ TIP OF THE DAY: Want to live where you work? Some states offer a Live Where You Work program. LWYW is a home mortgage incentive program that provides low-interest mortgage loans (down payment & closing cost help) to homebuyers purchasing homes in towns where they are employed. It get’s better….
The goal of LWYW is to build stronger communities by promoting homeownership and encouraging people to live closer to their jobs. This, in turn, will reduce the need for cars and increase the use of alternative transportation such as walking, biking and public transit. (GREEN!)
The program can also pay for your down payment and closing costs as well! Google LIVE WHERE YOU WORK TODAY and see if you, your state and town qualify!(tip via J. Crystal Anderson)-The Budgetnista

Down With Overdraft Fees!: April 20,2010
$ TIP OF THE DAY: Down with overdraft fees! President O. has enacted a new law whereby banks MUST now OPENLY give you the choice of overdraft protection when you open a new account. Choose NO for both new and existing accounts!
Why?
Choosing no simply means you’ll go back to the old days. Remember? (cue dream sequence music) Way-back-when, if you didn’t have the funds available your transaction would simply be denied vs continually swiping and running up a humongous overdraft bill.
Have you ever paid $35 for overdrafting $5?! I have and it’s enough to make you scream! Did you know you’ve always had a choice with overdraft protection? It’s one of the bank’s greatest moneymakers so they automatically enrolled people for their ‘convenience’.
Now that you know; Choose no when you open a new account and call up your current bank and drop the overdraft protection option on your old accounts (unless you want it) today!-The Budgetnista
